Sleepy Driver Causes Single Vehicle Rollover On Highway 41

COARSEGOLD — An early-morning crash snarled traffic today on Highway 41 after a Fresno man rolled his SUV near Black Hawk Lodge.

According to CHP, the 32-year-old male was southbound on Highway 41 just south of Yosemite Springs Parkway in a Nissan SUV. The accident occurred at approximately 6:10 a.m., when the driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.

He then traveled across the northbound lane and up the steep embankment, causing his vehicle to overturn, coming to rest blocking the northbound lane, says CHP.

The driver was able to extricate himself from the vehicle. Sierra Ambulance responded to the scene to evaluate the driver, who was reported to be uninjured, and did not require transport for medical treatment.

Madera County Fire Engine 8 and Squad 10 responded to the scene. One-lane traffic control was put in place for over an hour as the scene was cleared, causing major backups in the morning commute.

The accident remains under investigation.
