Single Car Accident On Road 200

O’NEALS – A young lady from Raymond missed an appointment this afternoon when she was involved in a single car accident on Road 200 near the Circle J Ranch Road.

Dezaray Corwin, from Raymond, was eastbound on Road 200 at about 12:35 p.m., on her way to a sales call in North Fork, when she says she looked down for just a moment.

When she looked back up, her car was drifting toward the right shoulder of the road. Before she could react, her right front wheel dropped off the edge of the road and caused her to overcorrect, throwing her into a spin.

Ambulance arrives on sceneHer Chevy Malibu crossed back over the oncoming lane of traffic, dropping off into the ditch on the opposite side of the road, and hitting the bank before careening back into the westbound lane. Luckily, there were no cars coming from the other direction.

Corwin said she doesn’t remember anything after the initial impact until her car stopped on the opposite side of the road. “Everything happened so fast,” she said.

Corwin then got out of her car and flagged down a passing motorist. She says several people stopped to help her, and she was very grateful for their kindness. A U.S. Forest Service truck stopped and they let her wait in their vehicle until police and ambulance arrived.

Chevy Malibu front end damageCal Fire Engine #4275 from Rancheria responded, along with LE #8 from Yosemite Lakes Park and CHP.

Sierra Ambulance EMTs checked the driver for injuries, but she was not hurt except for some minor pain from abraisons caused by the seat belt, and inhaling the smoke from the airbag.

The car appeared to be a total loss with pieces scattered along the roadway, three of the four tires flattened and major front end damage.

Corwin was keeping a good attitude about the whole incident. “It was quite a trip, and I don’t recommend it to anyone!”
