OAKHURST – The Tenaya Lodge hosted the California Communications Association annual CalCom Conference on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and three locals nominated by Sierra Tel won in their categories.
Jesse Parr, son of Sierra Tel employee Jacob Parr, was awarded the $2500 Robert Ringman Scholarship. The Robert Ringman Scholarship Trust Fund was established to recognize the importance of education in the telephone industry family and to provide reward and incentive for family members to continue their search for educational excellence.
Jesse is a Sophomore at Fresno City College, who plans to transfer to Fresno State or San Diego State to complete his studies. Jesse plans to major in Theater, which is his passion, and minor in Deaf Studies and English. After graduation his plans are to be active in the theater and teach American Sign Language.
Ricky Thatcher of Sierra Telephone was recognized as Driver of the Year.
This category recognizes an employee of a CalCom member company who has an outstanding driving record based on the total number of years driving, having no accidents or violations on the DMV record, and who has demonstrated acts of courtesy, service and contributions to highway safety. Ricky received a plaque and $1,000.
In the area of Safety Leadership, Sierra Tel’s Tom Pierce was the winner earning him a plaque and $1000.
The Safety Leadership award recognizes an employee of a CalCom member company who has made significant contributions to the field of safety including: Safety Committee Participation, Safety Suggestions, Safety Training, Innovative Safety programs, First Aid/CPR training, and participation in local safety organizations or programs.
