Sheriff Seeks Suspects In Drive-By Shooting

MADERA COUNTY – A 19-year-old Madera man has died from a wound he sustained during a drive-by shooting near Avenue 13 ½ and Cronin Street last night.

Deputies responded to reports of a man being shot shortly before 10 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 21. The victim, later identified as Robert Moreno III, was still alive when deputies arrived on scene.The car, described as a baby blue 4-door Honda Accord with stock rims, was heading east on Avenue 13 ½ as the victim was walking west toward the neighborhood mini-mart, Bill’s Kwik Stop. A shot was fired as the vehicle drove by, striking Moreno.

It is not known at this time why Moreno was the target.

Anyone who may have information is urged to call either the Madera County Sheriff’s Office at 559-675-7770 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-STOP. An anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers that leads to the apprehension of the person responsible for the shooting death of Robert Moreno could be worth up to a thousand dollars.
