Search Continues For Hunter Missing Near Iron Lakes

MADERA COUNTY – At least six different agencies are now assisting in the search for a hunter who went missing on Sunday, Sept. 20, in the Iron Lakes area of the Sierra National Forest.

A 37-year-old Madera man has not been seen nor heard from since he was reported missing, and search teams will continue their efforts throughout the night.

Foot searchers, K-9 teams, off-highway vehicle teams and helicopters are combing the area. A request has also gone out for a mounted unit to join the efforts, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.

Searchers have found some items as they cover their grids, but nothing that has led to the missing hunter. They have also heard some gun shots, but with hunting season open, that is to be expected, and the resulting searches in the area of the gun shots didn’t lead to any clues as to his whereabouts.

A Command Post has been set up at Cold Springs Summit. Madera County Search and Rescue, along with resources Fresno County, Tulare County, Marin County, Contra Costa and Santa Clara Counties, and the California National Guard are assisting in the search efforts.
