Sandbags Available At These Locations

SIERRA FOOTHILLS — With more rain on the way, some residents of the foothills are asking where they can get sandbags to help protect their property.

The Madera County Office of Emergency Services has a comprehensive list of places where sand is available. For complete information, visit http://madera-county.com/index.php/office-of-emergency-services and click on “Countywide Sandbag Locations.”

Please note that some locations have sand only, and you must bring your own bags. For all locations, you must bring your own shovel.

SNO reader Bonnie Pixley Campbell stopped in at Madera County Fire Station #12 in Oakhurst on Wednesday, and says the very helpful firefighters on duty assisted her with what she needed. However, please don’t expect such assistance as a matter of course. These folks are likely to be very busy responding to emergencies, especially as the weather intensifies.

Sandbags are also available for Yosemite Lakes Park residents at Station 10 in YLP. Please contact the Yosemite Lakes Owner’s Association at (559) 658-7466 for information on when sandbags will be available. You can also follow them on Facebook for updates.

In Mariposa, the Office of Emergency Services is not providing sandbags at this time, but should emergency conditions arise, residents are asked to contact them at 209-966-4330 for information.
