Roll-Over Crash On Road 223

NORTH FORK — An Oakhurst woman escaped serious injury after her vehicle crashed off the roadway this morning near North Fork.

At about 11 a.m., the 45-year-old driver was eastbound on Road 223, entering the sharp curve just past Thornberry (Road 420) in a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

ambulance-and-jeep-at-road-223-crashShe told CHP that another driver had encroached into her lane, and she had moved to the right to avoid hitting that vehicle on the wet road. That caused her to drive off the right shoulder and the Jeep rolled over down the steep embankment, striking a tree and coming to rest on its wheels.

The driver called 911, but the vehicle was not visible from the roadway, and it was several minutes before a passing motorist stopped to assist, having seen the tracks going off the embankment.

Sierra Ambulance responded along with Madera County Fire and Cal Fire Engine 4254.

The driver had complaints of pain and an injury to her hand. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
