COARSEGOLD – Like other mountain area kids, students from Rivergold Elementary are on winter break. That makes this a good time to look back and see what the Rivergold “Hawks” have been up to lately.
In November, for starters, the school’s cross country team took home 1st Place in the 4th through 8th grade category.
Area runners competed at Wasuma and Raymond. Rivergold students pictured include Tiffany Cacy, Emily Rich, Cambria Williams and Cyrus Christiansen. Each of these athletes won first place in their age group at the Wasuma meet; Emily Rich, in addition, won first place for her age group at Raymond.
Meanwhile, from the trail to the stage, Rivergold students Mollie Villanueva and Hailey Keller are just two of the members of the Rivergold Young Actors Studio. The after-school program is sponsored by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and run by Tamara Dent.
The group presented a special performance for parents and community members, which was catered by Rivergold Culinary Students. Young actors pictured include Jayden Stafford, Hailey Anderson, Emily Cozzi and Siena Dugovic.
In December, students from Mrs. Davis’s and Mrs. Steffke’s second grade classes had a blast when they decorated the Rivergold Christmas tree in Oakhurst.
The PTA sponsored its first Holiday Fest on Friday, Dec. 6, with festivities including a Parade of Lights. The family evening also featured live entertainment provided by student dancers and musicians, a silent auction, a live auction, plus a soup and baked potato bar. Several local crafters contributed by selling their wares.
Included in the Parade of Lights were students from Girl Scount Troop 2866, dancers from Dancers, Inc., and students from Rivergold Leadership class.
