Rain May Be Headed For Sacata Fire

FRESNO COUNTY — Crews continue their work on the Sacata Fire, burning north of Pine Flat Reservoir in tall grass, brush and native oaks.

The fire, which was reported at 1 p.m. on Oct. 11, is now estimated at 1,959 acres with 50 percent containment.

There are currently 561 personnel assigned to the incident, including 24 engines, 8 helicopters, 4 water tenders, 3 dozers and 17 hand crews.

Three injuries have been reported.

Firefighters continue to construct and reinforce containment lines around the perimeter. Dry, drought-ravaged grass and brush are fueling the fire, but suppression efforts have been assisted by moderate day and evening temperatures.

Today, a weather front, along with increasing winds and rain, are predicted to arrive late this afternoon through this evening.

At present, the fire poses no immediate threat to communities and there are no evacuations in effect.

Fire crews and apparatus are present on unpaved Forest Road 10S69, which will be closed intermittently to the public based on fire conditions and behavior. Everyone is urged to please slow down drive safely and cautiously.

Smoke from the Sacata Fire may continue to be visible during active burning periods in the local communities. Depending on changing weather conditions, smoke may create decreased visibility and increased problems for people with respiratory diseases.
