Public Safety Tax & Tree Mortality Funding On Town Hall Agenda

OAKHURST — Tom Wheeler will hold his final Town Hall meeting of the year this Thursday, Nov. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Oakhurst Community Center.

Items on the agenda include the proposed Public Safety Sales Tax, slated to be put before voters in March 2017. Georgiena Vivian, President of VRPA Technologies, will give a detailed presentation about the current state of the Madera County Fire Department and the proposed expenditure plan for monies generated from such a tax.

There will also be a presentation by Johnnie Silizon, District Conservationist from the Natural Resource Conservation Services (NRCS), who will be available for questions regarding the recently released Tree Mortality funding for private land owners. Please note that there are a variety of individual and property qualifications needed to be eligible for this incentive program, and Thursday’s meeting is a good time to have those points clarified.

Craig Hinch, new Commander at the Oakhurst Area CHP Office, will introduce himself to the community,; and Dean Gould, Forest Supervisor for the Sierra National Forest, will talk about issues faced by his agency at this time.

Cal Fire Captain Frank Bigelow, Jr., will discuss the current tree mortality situation, followed by a presentation by Jaime Holt of the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.

There will be time for Q&A from the public following the presentations, and discussion of items of interest to Madera County residents.

The Oakhurst Community Center is located at 39800 Road 425B.
