O’s Badger Sports Bulletin: The Start Of Spring

YHS CROPPEDO’s Badger Sports Bulletin, Vol. 1, Issue 6 by Yosemite High School Athletic Director Rusty Oetinger —

The end of February also marked the end of the winter sport season with the loss of the girls basketball team on Friday, Feb. 26.

Two days before that, they beat Selma for the second straight year to advance to the Quarter Finals of the D-II Girls Basketball playoffs, then traveled to Redwood High School to compete against the #1 Seed Redwood team. They played a very competitive game, but lost in the end.

It was an end to a great winter sports season, which found four out of the five winter teams making it to the playoffs. So out with the winter and in with Spring.

This week, the newly renovated boys baseball team began the Strathmore Baseball Tournament. On Monday, Feb. 29, they played at Granite Hills against Shafter and they won in a close game.

Tuesday, Mar. 1 took them to Caruthers. The boys played a close game up until the end of the 5th inning. After that, Caruthers warmed up with their bats and scored five runs. We lost, but the boys played hard and with great enthusiasm. The boys team played Thursday at Granite Hills once again and then have another game on Saturday.

On Tuesday the boys golf team started their season, as well. They traveled to Belmont CC and played Clovis East. The boys lost a close match, and were missing a couple of their key players.

Wednesday, the girls softball team started their season at Mariposa. The new team looks to be competitive this year and Coach Dave Maynez is optimistic.

Thursday was the opening season for the Badger Tennis team, and they played Edison at home. They are looking to compete again this year, after their league championship last year.

The boys golf team also began their home season by hosting Central High at River Creek.

Friday, the swim team will host San Joaquin Memorial at home and softball will be away at Roosevelt.

Saturday, the track team begins their competitive season at Sanger. As you can see, sports don’t waste anytime between seasons.

One quick note. I have had couple of calls regarding schedules that are incorrect on the Max Preps website. The most accurate and up to date schedule information is on our outstanding Athletic website. You can access the website from the Yosemite High School main site, or you can go directly to it at www.yosemiteathletics.org.

By the way, if anyone is interested in supporting one of our teams, there is advertising space available on our sports page. For more information, please give Rusty Oetinger a call at Yosemite High School or send him an email at roetinger@yosemiteusd.org

Thanks for all of the continued support.
