OAKHURST – Sierra Tel invites area residents to Yosemite High School’s football stadium this year to commemorate Patriot Day 2016, with Keynote Speaker Michael A. Vane, Lieutenant General, US Army Retired. LTG Vane was most recently the Deputy Commanding General at the US Army Draining and Doctrine (TRADOC) Futures Center. The 2-star general lives at Shaver Lake.
The ceremonies begins at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 12. YHS Principal Randy Seals has made arrangements for the entire YHS student body to attend the event, raising this year’s expected attendance to over 700 people.
Patriot Day is intended to recognize and show appreciation to all veterans, active duty military and emergency services personnel for their dedication to our country and communities, as well as to honor the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Included will be a special flag-raising ceremony and pledge of allegiance, patriotic music performances, 21 rifle salute and Taps.
More than 200 people came out for a touching ceremony at the park last year.
