Oakhurst Community Band Goes To The Movies

OCCB Spring 2016 OAKHURST – Dedicated members of the Oakhurst Community Concert Band (OCCB) are once again tuning up in preparation for the annual Spring Concert on Sunday, Mar. 13 at 3 p.m., in the auditorium of Mountain Christian Center.

As always with OCCB concerts, the family event is free. The 45-piece band will play music from the silver screen on an afternoon dedicated to movies, including compositions by Henry Mancini, John Williams, Richard Rogers, Leonard Bernstein, and Hans Zimmer.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend the concert, offered by a diverse group of musicians who are more like a family, and practice together at least once a week.

The group is known for its policy of inclusion, being made up of friends, neighbors, teachers, students, parents, kids and conceivably anyone who feels they can keep up with the pace and professionalism, along with the fun.

In addition to providing spectacular concerts, the more experienced members of the Community Band mentor local high school band students and assist with Yosemite High School programs including football, musicals and graduation.

Organized as a nonprofit in 2002, the band is supported by donations. Donors contributing $100 or more receive recognition and concert programs and the gift is tax-deductible.
