North Fork Boys Scouts In Council-Wide Camporall

Submitted by Dave Smith

Late last month the Sequoia Council, Boy Scouts of America, held a council-wide camporall at Camp Chawanakee, Shaver Lake. The last council wide camporall was five years ago. Boy Scout troops and Cub Scout packs from throughout the council participated in the weekend event: over 600 Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, parents and leaders gathered together.

Numerous competitive events were held ranging from first aid relay races to compass/GPS courses, to rifle shooting and Dutch oven cooking. Eleven Scouts from North Fork Troop 357 took part in the weekend, and Troop 357 patrols earned awards during the competition. Troop 357 took overall second place out of all the troops in attendance.

Pack 357 earned a number of awards in their competitive events. The pack took overall first place for Cub packs attending the event.

The council hopes to hold a camporall every five years. We hold smaller camporees a couple of times each year where only a portion of the council units get together.  The Camporall included units from Visalia, Chowchilla, Prather, North Fork, Oakhurst, Mariposa and Coalinga.

Boys age 10 ½ and in grade six, or age 11 through 17 are eligible to become Scouts.

Both the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts will be holding a recruitment night at the Scout Building in North Fork on Friday, Nov. 20 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Boys age 7 through 10 years of are eligible to become a Cub Scout. Anyone interested in knowing more about the program can attend the meeting or give me a call.
