New Winter Storm Warning For Yosemite And Central Sierra

CENTRAL SIERRA — The National Weather Service office in Hanford has issued a new Winter Storm Warning for the southern Sierra Nevada from Yosemite National Park to the Tulare-Kern County Line.

Two feet of new snow accumulations or more can be expected above 7,000 feet, while snow levels are predicted to drop to as low as 4,000 feet.

A Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect from 4 a.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday. A few inches of snow will accumulate down to 4,000 feet, with up to one foot of new snow above 5,000 feet, and 2 feet or more accumulating above 7,000 feet.

The snow is expected to be heaviest early Friday morning and into Friday evening. Heavy snow will make many roads impassable and create winter driving conditions. Over the highest elevations, strong wings will lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility.

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions with significant amounts of snow forecast that travel will be dangerous. Only travel in emergency, warn experts, and if you must travel keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of emergency.
