New Children’s Computers At The North Fork Library

Written by Sarah McIntyre —

NORTH FORK — For the first time, the North Fork Library is offering two new AWE Learning children’s computers.

The Early Literacy Station is for the youngest readers to enjoy with thousands of educational games and programs which span all areas of learning including science, music, art, history, and of course reading.

The Afterschool Edge Station is geared toward elementary school aged readers who like to explore those same activities and both stations allow users to interact and read-along with stories. These are not connected to the internet, allowing for safe computer use, but they are touch screen for the smallest, curious hands.

The Friends of the North Fork Library was awarded a $1,500 grant from the Vons Foundation in May of 2016, and $8,442 from Golden 1 Credit Union in December of 2016 to purchase the computers.

As part of the Golden 1 grant, a new collection of books will be purchased that are written for struggling or reluctant readers. These books will encourage readers to grow a love for reading and work toward their reading level goals at the same time. This collection will be available at the North Fork Library soon.
