Mud And Debris Causing Hazardous Driving Conditions

CENTRAL SIERRA — First responders have their hands full as continuing rains cause flooding, plus mud and debris slides all across the mountain area, with most of the incidents happening in Mariposa County.

At this hour, there are numerous call-outs for hazards:

  • Roadway Flooding on Highway 49 at Allred Road
  • Roadway Flooding on Ben Hur Rd at Silver Bar Road
  • Roadway Flooding on School House Road at Owens Creek Road
  • Boulders in both lanes on Highway 140 at the Bug Hostle
  • Roadway Flooding on Highway 49 at Mykleoaks Road
  • Minivan blocking Old Toll Road at Highway 49
  • Mud/Dirt/Rock in the roadway at 4893 Bear Valley Road
  • Vehicle stuck in middle of the road on Guadalupe Creek Road at Yaqui Gulch Road
  • Mud/Dirt/Rock on Darrah Road at Triangle Road
  • Roadway Flooding on Mount Bullion Cutoff Road at Highway 49
  • Mud/Dirt/Rock on Highway 140 at Mount Bullion Cut Off Road near Guadalupe Grade
  • Roadway Flooding on Hornitos Road at Granite Lane, 5214 Hornitos Road
  • Mud/Dirt/Rock on Highway 140 at Old Hwy 140 in Catheys Valley
  • Roadway Flooding on Highway 140 at Chase Ranch
  • Roadway washing out on Highway 140 at Trower Road
  • Roadway Flooding on Hornitos Road at Bear Creek Drive

Dispatchers are doing an amazing job of keeping up with all the calls for service, and everyone from Cal Fire to Caltrans and County Road and Fire Departments, CHP and Sheriff’s deputies, the Forest Service, and any other agency whose help is needed, are all responding to the unfolding incidents as quickly as they can.

Conditions are changing rapidly, and many of these hazard areas will be cleared of debris within the next few hours. However, others may develop as rains continue, so anyone traveling in the mountain area is advised to be alert, expect delays, and be patient.
