Minarets Sports Report: Pre-Season Soccer

O’NEALS — Over this last weekend the Minarets JV girls soccer team traveled to Riverdale for their pre-season JV tournament. This was the second annual tournament that Riverdale has put on. Last year, the JV Mustangs brought home second place after a devastating Championship game.

This year, with a roster full of new talent, they were able to pull out on top. Not only did they come home in first place, they had an all-around shutout day. They weren’t scored on once.

In the initial bracket play, seeded against Mendota, Washington Union, and Caruthers, the games were won 6-0, 3-0, and 1-0 respectively. The fourth and final, championship game was against Dos Palos and the Mustangs won 2-0.

A win at this tournament was just what the team needed. The win was a major boost in confidence, especially with such significant score margins.

This team is fun to watch and they can only improve from here to season. The next home game for the Mustangs is on Thursday, Dec. 22, against the Kerman High School Lions. You can also stay updated on games on Max Preps. Come out and support our growing soccer programs, as Minarets Soccer United welcomes you back out to our fields. This team especially is excited to play for you. Go Mustangs!
