Minarets News: Football, Volleyball, Prom and More

O’NEALS – Here’s what’s happening at Minarets High School in the coming weeks. You’ve heard of the ESPY awards – here are the “Mini’s.”

Sports Awards

Mustang enthusiasts will want to save the date of Thursday, May 16, for the first-ever Minarets Sports Awards, hereafter known as the “Minis.” Awards will be handed out for player, coach, team and fan of the year. Other categories include scholar athlete of the year and most inspirational player.The cost for the evening is $20 for students, $10 for nominees and $25 for adults. Dinner will be provided by Famous Dave’s.

Football

Minarets High School is hosting an informational football meeting Wednesday, April 24 at 6:30pm in room 303 on campus. Students, parents and community members are invited to hear about Minarets Mustangs football.

According to organizers, the quick meeting will “introduce the new coaching staff, preview the 2013 spring/summer/fall schedules and open up lines of communication.”

Volleyball

On Thursday, April 25 seniors Tony Alvarez and Eddie Martinez invite the community to a “Battle of the Sexes,” Senior Guys vs. Girls volleyball fundraiser. The event is scheduled for the Minarets gym and the epic battle is set to begin at 5 p.m. The cost is $4 and proceeds go toward graduation.

In addition to groundbreaking volleyball, food will be for sale throughout the evening along with raffle prizes. The girls’ team includes Jordan Smith, Rachel Verduzco, Alexis Kochackis, Samantha Alspaw and Tara True. The boys’ team, in addition to Alvarez and Martinez, is made up of Christian DelaTorre, Tyson Conti and Erik Pincus.

Prom

Minarets Prom for juniors and seniors will be held on Saturday, May 11, at The Grand, 1401 on Fulton Street in Fresno at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now, starting at $75 per bid (two tickets) and the price goes up $5 per week until the event.

Tickets are available online in the Mustang’s web store or available for purchase in person in the Minarets media lounge.
