Minarets Baseball 3rd Annual Military Appreciation Game

O’NEALS — Stop by Minarets High School on Friday, Apr. 27 for a very special event, as Minarets takes on Caruthers on behalf of the U.S. Military.

Minarets Baseball will hold its third annual Military Appreciation Game in honor of all who have served. The event is being organized by junior Aaron Hall, who was recently awarded the honor of Military Child of the Year by Operation Homefront.

Besides serving up some of America’s favorite pastime, a complimentary dinner will be served to all veterans on Friday. The meal includes pulled pork, watermelon, pasta salad, hot dogs and there will also be a gift for veterans.

Non-military are not being charged for the meal though donations are appreciated. The snack shop will be open for business as usual.

The ceremony starts at 3:45 p.m. with presentation of flags by the Minarets Equestrian team and a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by Madeleine Vellandi. Minarets cheerleaders will be greeting veterans and helping serve, and a military Humvee will be parked on site.

All proceeds from the game will go to Doc’s Dogs for Vets in Fresno. Doc’s is a nonprofit founded by the Pleitez family in honor of Spc. Benjamin C. Pleitez, an army medic who died in Afghanistan in 2012.

The public is encouraged to attend the event on Friday, Apr. 27 at 3:45 p.m. at Minarets, to honor active duty military and veterans, and asked to please share the information so that anyone who can participate knows about the special day.
