OAKHURST – An organization dedicated to keeping the Oakhurst Community Center running has announced its fall schedule: Mountain Community Women (MCW) start their season off with a Membership Drive beginning Monday, Sept. 8 at the Oakhurst Community Center.
The social begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a business meeting at 10 a.m., with a special guest speaker addressing the group starting at 11 a.m.
The purpose of MCW is to support the Oakhurst Community Center (OCC), a gathering place used for social, educational, and recreational purposes in the community. OCC is supported entirely by the community; MCW is a public charity.
Concerning the connection between the community center and MCW, new President Nancy Taylor wrote, “we are a vital part of their existence, raising at times 25% of their operating budget. Mountain Community Women is filled with wonderful women who put in a lot of volunteer hours to create successful fundraising events.” Taylor and MCW new members, especially during the current membership drive, which kicks off their fundraising season.
As always, they say, visitors and prospective members are welcome to attend the monthly meetings. “Though we work hard to support the Oakhurst Community Center, we also have a lot of fun.”
The action heats up in conjunction with the general meeting Monday, Nov. 3, when MCW host their 25th annual Tater Luncheon and Table Setting Contest. Doors at the Community Center open at 9:30 a.m. Following a short business meeting at 10 a.m., the table setting contest/raffle/luncheon starts at 10:30 a.m. “There will be lots of raffle prizes to win and a $10 donation is requested,” say MCW reps. On Saturday, Dec. 13, MCW ofers a special treat for the locals when they are invited to a collectibles appraisal, and to shop for that a holiday gift and enjoy lunch at the Oakhurst Community Center.
