Mariposa Storytelling Festival Features Master Liar Bil Lepp

MARIPOSA — He’s back! That master of the tall tale, Bil Lepp, whose audiences can hardly stop laughing long enough to catch the next twist in his extraordinary tales.

Bil will be one of six featured nationally recognized storytellers at the Mariposa County Arts Council’s 30th Mariposa Storytelling Festival’s Grand Finale Celebration, Mar. 10 – 12.

Events take place at Mariposa County High School on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 10 & 11, Sunday’s new Brunch and Stories with the Tellers, will take place at the Mariposa Senior Center, Mar. 12, from 10 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.

Bil is a renowned storyteller, author, and five-time champion of the West Virginia Liars’ Contest. His wonderfully outrageous, humorous tall-tales and witty stories have earned the appreciation of listeners of all ages and walks of life.

He appears frequently at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tenn., the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Timpanogos Storytelling Festival in Orem, Utah, and he has also performed on Comedy Central. His picture book, The King of Little Things, won a Parents Choice Gold Award.

Growing up in a family where the truth was fluid, Bil Lepp became adept at spinning tales and exaggerating circumstances at an early age.

A nationally renowned storyteller and five time champion of the West Virginia Liars’ Contest, Bil’s outrageous, humorous tall-tales and witty stories have earned the appreciation of listeners of all ages and from all walks of life.

Though a champion liar, his stories often contain morsels of truth which shed light on universal themes. Be it a hunting trip, a funeral, or a visit to the dentist, Bil can find the humor in any situation. Lepp explains that while his stories may not be completely true, they are always honest.
