Madera County Public Works Director Resigns

MADERA COUNTY – Madera County Public Works Director Johannes J. Hoevertsz announced Thursday, Oct. 22, that he will be leaving Madera County to pursue a new professional opportunity in Sonoma County.

“This decision was not easy as I love my job and the work that we have accomplished as a team in Madera County,” Hoevertsz said. “However, this job opportunity presents a new challenge that will help me to further grow my professional career.”

Hoevertsz, who has worked for the County for 15 years, stated that he leaves behind a staff that is prepared, capable, and ready to move forward with the County’s numerous ongoing and future projects.

“I have the utmost confidence that the Public Works team will continue to perform at the high level the Board Members and public have come to expect,” Hoevertsz said.

Board of Supervisors Chairman David Rogers said he was sorry to hear about Hoevertsz’s resignation, but wishes him the best in his new endeavors.

“Johannes has been a great leader of a strong team, and has accomplished an impressive number of County goals. We will miss him as a leader and a dear friend.”

District 5 Supervisor Tom Wheeler agrees.

“Johannes is one of the best Road Commissioners this County has had. Projects such as the widening of Road 200 had been sitting on the shelf for years until Johannes came on board. Words cannot express how appreciative I am for his leadership and hard work.”

District 4 Supervisor Max Rodriguez echoed the same sentiment.

“Johannes has attracted and inspired an excellent team and created a solid foundation in the Public Works department. He has been an integral part of our County team and will be sorely missed.”

Hoevertsz’s last day is Friday, Nov. 6. The Board of Supervisors will discuss the recruitment of Hoevertsz’s replacement, and the appointment of an interim Public Works Director at the Nov. 3 board meeting.
