Low-Cost Summer Soccer Camp For Kids

OAKHURST – Is your exuberant youngster looking for a way to kick up a little dirt on the soccer field this summer? If so, there’s good news from the Bass Lake Education Foundation (BLEF).

The nonprofit BLEF is offering a week-long (that’s 5 half-days) soccer camp for youth ages 6-12 years, kicking off on July 15 at the Yosemite High School soccer field, with Coach Vanessa Jasper at the helm. Jasper, also the YHS soccer coach, will be assisted by YHS soccer players.

“We are very excited about our first summer sport camp,” says BLEF founder Kriszti Mendonca. “If we get enough interest from the community, we would like to eventually add other sports like basketball and golf in the future. We believe athletic summer camps tie in with our mission of bringing enhanced opportunities to the children of the foothill area, and Soccer Camp is a great way to prepare for the Mountain Area Youth Soccer League’s fall soccer season.”

Coach Jasper intends to focus on developing technique and skills in a fun, relaxed environment, according to organizers. Participants will be split into age-appropriate groups. Students from all schools who are in the 6-12 age range are welcome to attend.

BLEF Soccer Camp runs July 15-19 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and costs $80 for the entire week.

The Bass Lake Education Foundation is an independent nonprofit run by parent volunteers. BLEF’s primary mission is to provide resources for quality programs for mountain area students of all ages.

BLEF has offered a wintertime middle school Science Club at Oak Creek Intermediate for three years running and has just completed an elementary school Art Club program at Oakhurst Elementary.

The organization has engaged the community with Computer Programming and Ceramics workshops, and is largely responsible for area 6th graders’ chance to attend Green Meadows Outdoor School this year.
