Local Marines Hold Scholarship Fundraiser

Marine melodrama 2015Submitted by Ralph Capone

OAKHURST – The community is invited to a special mini-melodrama at Golden Chain Theater to support scholarships for high school seniors on Friday, Sept. 11. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. It’s sponsored by the Marine Corps League Mt. Detachment #1121 in Oakhurst.

The mini-melodrama is “Awful Awakenings at Asphalto,” and the evening includes a special musical salute to veterans. Actors, dancers and singers have been rehearsing for weeks in order to produce this one-time-only special engagement. The audience can look forward to lots of participation, booing, hissing and sighing, along with laughing and having fun.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from any member of Detachment #1121. Walk-ins are welcome.

To date the Detachment has awarded more than $20,000 in scholarships to deserving high school seniors toward their higher education.

This local Marine Corps League is open to other branches of the military as well. The Griswald Detatchment #1121 will be wearing their Red Shirts to the festivities. For additional information, please contact Marine Corp. League #1121, P.O. Box 141, Oakhurst, Ca. 93644

“We love a crowd,” say organizers, “so please attend and donate to the Senior Scholarships.”
