MOUNTAIN AREA — For many, this is a season of giving. In the dozen busy days leading up to Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 25, we invite readers to join in celebrating twelve local nonprofits and the people behind them who are making a difference.

We start with a locally broadcast and internet streaming source of news and entertainment playing great music and shows every day.

Day #1 KRYZ Community Radio

  • What is it? KRYZ Radio is a commercial free, independent community radio station, dedicated to supporting, informing and entertaining the communities of the Central Sierra. In addition to stellar music, KRYZ Radio presents a diversity of programming, reports on matters of local interest, features public service announcements and live reporting of events, news and updates during emergencies. KRYZ Radio is broadcasting at 100 watts across the Mariposa basin at FM 98.5, and are live streaming on the internet.
  • Who’s behind it? KRYZ is the product of many years’ effort by numerous individuals and groups. For more on staff, community liaisons, board of directors, show producers and talent, visit the website. Ron Iudice is currently Chairman of the Board of Mariposa Community Radio.

Why we love it. With a growing mix of thought-provoking local programs and thoroughly eclectic entertainment, KRYZ Community Radio is accessible, commercial-free, independent, and continues its evolution as a strong voice heard throughout the foothills. As a testament to its value, the station was recently awarded a Community Enrichment Grant by the Mariposa Community Foundation. KRYZ is a project of Mariposa Community Radio, a 501(c)3 non profit organization.
