Let The Beneficial Bidding Begin!

OAKHURST — ‘Tis the season to shop online, and all for a great cause, as the Boys & Girls Club (BGC) of Oakhurst is running their hotly-anticipated online auction fundraiser from Tuesday, Nov. 18 through Saturday Nov. 30 at 7 p.m.

It’s also time to save the date, Sunday Dec. 8, for the famous BGC Christmas Tree Auction at the Bass Lake Event Center’s Lake View Room, an exciting afternoon of giving and conviviality which benefits numerous charitable causes.

Together these two events (the 13-day online auction and the traditional live auction party on Dec. 8) comprise what will be the 12th Annual Oakhurst Community Christmas Tree and Online Auction extravaganza.

Boys and Girls Club LogoThe BGC “Bidding for Good” online auction starting Tuesday, Nov. 18 features a veritable treasure trove of fun, unique and even functional items anyone can bid on as a way to raise money for the organization.

With more than 55 different items to bid on and more being added every day, it’s a big treat to go online and see the auction items, ranging from gift cards for local restaurants and attractions, to the chance for an “Intro to Improv” in Chicago.

Meanwhile, creative hands are at work designing special Christmas trees, wreaths and other holiday items for the live event Sunday, Dec. 8. The Lake View room at the Bass Lake Event Center is sure to be the most festive location around.

Oakhurst Community Christmas Tree AuctionMore than 400 people have been invited to the evening, which is both well-attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Doors open for the silent auction, raffle and delicious treats at 3 p.m. Bidding for the live auction begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person or 4 for $100 when purchased in advance. Tickets are available at Oakhurst Giftworks, Foster & Parker Insurance or online.

There’s no doubt the BGC serves a tremendous role in the community, as an after-school home to an ever-increasing group of kids. The programs are great and so are the staff and volunteers who contribute, nearly endlessly, to the organization. Without the local BGC, dozens of amazing kids would be without a safe, staffed place to work, learn and play.

With that in mind, one of the great things about the Community Christmas Tree Auction – besides the free-flowing champagne and hors d’oeuvres is that the afternoon festivities benefit not just the BGC, but many other deserving organizations in the area. These include, but are not limited to, Oakhurst Sierra Rotary Club Santa Program, Children’s Museum of the Sierra, Helping Hands, Mountain Bear Fan Club, Oakhurst Lutheran Community Ministries, Coarsegold School, Rivergold School, Wild Wonderful Women Scholarship Fund, Soroptimist International of the Sierras, Yosemite High School Scholarship Fund, Oakhurst Mountain Lions Club, 49-Ears Scholarship Fund, Women’s Council of Realtors, and more.

“By donating an item or service directly online, you’ll be helping to raise money for our organization and you’ll receive a mention on our site that can link back to your own web page,” says the BGC. “Whether you have one item or 100 to contribute, your participation is an invaluable part of our fundraising efforts.”

The same goes for the bidding, so loosen up those fingers, fire up that digital device and order something really nice. You deserve it, and so do the invaluable nonprofits that will benefit from your largesse.
