Learn To Prune Fruit Trees For The Best Summer Harvest

MARIPOSA COUNTY — While the weather may not put one in mind of spring and flowering fruit trees, this is the time to be thinking about preparing for a bountiful harvest next fall.

Do you know how to prune your fruit trees so that they are the strongest, best shaped, and ready to provide you with the juiciest fruit possible? How about trees that you don’t have to get on a ladder to harvest? Learn how to make your trees the best they can be at a free workshop sponsored by Mariposa Master Gardeners.

Former Farm Advisor Maxwell Norton, who specialized in fruit trees, will present the demonstration Saturday, Jan. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at 9556 Banderilla in La Grange. Please call (209) 966-2017 or sign on at cemariposa.ucanr.edu to register (in case there are changes). Dress for the weather; this is an outdoor workshop.

Norton will talk about the many kinds of pruning cuts, the right tools and techniques, as well as timing so that you get the most out of your home orchard.
