Juvenile Escapes Serious Injury In Rollover Crash

COARSEGOLD — A two-vehicle accident blocked traffic on Highway 41 for over an hour this afternoon.

Shortly after 1 p.m. a 16-year old male from Coarsegold was southbound on Highway 41 just south of Serpa Canyon in a Jeep Wrangler, when he “zoned out,” he told CHP.

The Jeep left the right side of the roadway, hit a rock, pitched up onto two wheels and veered into the northbound lane, where it struck a 2004 Dodge Caravan driven by a 52-year old male from Oakhurst.

The Jeep came to rest on its passenger side, blocking the southbound lane. The driver was able to extricate himself from the vehicle. He suffered minor lacerations to his ear and arm and was transported by ground ambulance to Kaiser.

The driver of the Caravan was not injured.

Traffic was backed up for several miles in both directions as the road was blocked for about 90 minutes while the scene was cleared.

The road was reopened at about 2:30 p.m. and traffic will remain heavy until approximately 3 p.m., says CHP. The accident remains under investigation.
