Juvenile Driver Arrested For Suspicion Of DUI After Crash

OAKHURST – A 17-year-old male from Coarsegold was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a crash in Oakhurst last night.

Just after 9 p.m., the young man was traveling west on Road 426 just west of School Road (427) in a blue 1986 Toyota pickup.

According to CHP, the driver of the Toyota crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a 2008 Ford Escape driven by a 37-year-old Oakhurst resident, with a 40-year-old passenger, also of Oakhurst.

The force of the collision pushed the Escape into the westbound lane where it came to a stop blocking both lanes. The Toyota ended up in a parking lot on the south side of the road.

The driver of the Ford Escape suffered what were described as “minor” injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to St. Agnes Medical Center in Fresno. His passenger was uninjured.

The juvenile driver of the Toyota was determined by CHP at the scene to be under the influence, and was arrested and transported to the Madera County Juvenile Detention Center and booked for felony DUI.
