Judith Ann Chance Stolp

Judith Ann Chance (Stolp) our beloved mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother passed from her earthly vessel to God’s Kingdom on April 6th, 2018. She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren as she went home.

Born in Atchison, Kansas, in 1941, she moved to California in the early 1950’s. Judy attended St. Catherine’s Catholic School in Ventura, Calif., and graduated from UCSB as an Honor’s English major. She would go on to teach at several schools, including Our Lady of the Assumption in Ventura, where she was known as Mrs. Clark.

Judy married Tommy D. Chance in Ventura, Calif., and remained happily married for 36 years. At the time of her retirement in 2011, Tom and Judy moved to the Sierra Mountains near Yosemite, Calif., where they found nighttime star gazing, grassy flower filled meadows, local wildlife, and snowcapped mountains a peaceful change from the city life.

Our matriarch, an amazing women filled with love, devotion and a superb Chef Grandma kept a family knitted together with special events and holidays. She loved discovering new foods and recipes that transformed the taste buds with savory or sweet delight.

Her collection of fancy and simple platters is where her heart can be found – feeding her family from a bounty of love. She was an avid watcher of local birds, adored her Cecile Brunner Rose buds and majestic rock gardens.

She precedes her parents Bill and Ruth Stolp, of Ventura, Calif., and her younger sister Lynda Velasquez, in death. She is deeply missed by her husband Tommy D. Chance and her two adult children, Doug Clark and Lisa Clark. She leaves behind three beautiful granddaughters and their significant others — Heather (Jacob Vitalec-Perry), Hannah (Mathew Reeder), and Holly (Dylan Castleman), two great-grandsons Jayce and Quentin, younger brother Bill Stolp of Oakhurst, Calif., and two stepsons Glenn and Matthew Chance.
