CHOWCHILLA – The newly elected Sheriff of Madera County has been chosen by the Chowchilla Chamber of Commerce as Citizen of the Year.
Jay Varney will be recognized along with six other honorees on Saturday, Jan. 17, as the Chowchilla Chamber hosts their Community Awards Dinner at Farnesi’s Steakhouse.
Varney will be leaving his post as Chowchilla Chief of Police in January for his new position as Madera County Sheriff.
Doors open for the Awards Dinner at 5:30 p.m. at Farnesi’s Steak House, 230 E. Robertson Blvd. in Chowchilla. Reservations are required by Jan. 5, and the cost for the evening is $35.
