Ice Rink, Nordic Center Open In Yosemite

YOSEMITE — Good news if you want to head down into the valley for some truly classic wintertime activity.

The Half Dome Village Ice Rink is now open for the 2016-17 season. The new seasonal ice rink is located on the eastern section of Half Dome Village in the main parking area, with stunning views of Half Dome.

According to TravelYosemite, the first ice rink was established in 1928 when the Yosemite Winter Club flooded an unused parking lot.

Weather permitting, the rink is open every day for several 2.5 hour sessions.

In addition, the Nordic Center at Yosemite Ski and Snowboard Area is now open. The Nordic Center offers cross-country ski lessons, rentals for cross-country skis and snowshoes. Guided snowshoe hikes to Dewey Point are offered on select dates.

The Nordic Center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Services are limited as the Day Lodge is not open and there is no food service at this time.

Downhill skiing/snowboarding at Yosemite Ski and Snowboard Area has not opened as of this writing. Check the website for an update.
