HOW Ladies Night Out

OAKHURST – Members of the charitable organization Helping One Woman (HOW) have announced their upcoming meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, Apr. 16 at El Cid Mexican Cuisine, starting at 6 p.m.

The honoree for the evening is Nancy Fikkert, who is the proprietor of Tokens Gift and Thrift shop in Oakhurst.

According to HOW, Nancy recently lost her husband after a two year battle with cancer. The organization invites the community to join together to offer friendship, support and encouragement at this difficult time.

Members of the nonprofit say the March dinner, held at the Hitching post, was an “incredible showing of love and support for Becky Behling,” adding, “her positive energy in the face of dealing with cancer is remarkable and inspiring. Her family and friends did an amazing job – they gathered our largest crowd ever and enabled her to receive our largest gift ever.”

The Oakhurst chapter of HOW honors one recipient each month, whose name is drawn from nominations offered at the previous month’s dinner. HOW attendees purchase their own dinner and provide a cash gift of $10 or more. The monetary gift helps to provide supplemental support for a recipient during a time of great need or loss.

It’s not just about the money, though. “The emotional and heartfelt support we provide is the driving force behind the HOW organization. This force is powerful and healing and your support is greatly appreciated,” say those in the know.

The HOW schedule is set for the remainder of 2014:

May 21
June 18
July 16
August 20
September 17
October 15
November 19
