HOW Event Honors Heather Mayer, Includes Online Auction

OAKHURST – The local chapter of the nonprofit organization Helping One Woman (HOW) will meet on Wednesday, Mar. 15, at the Elks Lodge, in support of Coarsegold resident Heather Mayer and family.

For the first time, volunteers with HOW are offering an on-line auction on the HOW Facebook page.

Heather Mayer is well known in the community as the loving mother of ten beautiful children, a loyal friend, and a role model for many, say HOW organizers. Heather was the devoted wife and best friend to her husband Nash Mayer, until he was suddenly taken from their lives in a tragic tree accident on Dec. 1, 2016.

“Nash was a hardworking man who served God by cheerfully serving others,” say volunteers with HOW. He was “a man who played with his children, adored his wife, and spread laughter and fun wherever he went. The loss of Nash as husband, father and friend has been profound.”

Event sponsors include Ashley Gomez, Michelle Thompson, and Nancy Fikkert.

Despite the devastating turn of events, Heather continues to home school their children and provide them with a peaceful, loving home.

“She must also shoulder Nash’s tasks around the home and make sure that her family’s needs are met. Heather aches for him daily, grieving for his loss and the loss of the dreams they shared together. We, as a community, can’t take away the hurt from the family’s loss, but we can step up. We can help ease the financial burden.”

Those participating in the HOW benefit will place $10 or more toward a contribution for Heather, and pay for their own dinners. Proceeds from the evening go directly to Heather at the end of the evening.

“This is the first time HOW has ever had auction items online,” explains Ashley Gomez. “We have started an auction on an all-day boat rental from The Forks Resort. We added another auction for $1,500 worth of tree work from Clean Cut Tree Service. Since this is the first time doing on auction, we would love as much support as possible to make this as successful as possible for the Mayer family, and I would love to see as many fellow tree service people as possible show up for the dinner to show support.”

Ashley reminds potential bidders that they would like for people to share the auction information, and need to remember to “only bid on the HOW page not the copied and shared pictures.”

During the dinner, silent auction items up for bid will include two different axes, and numerous gift certificates from area restaurants and local shops.

RSVPs are requested for this HOW dinner, so the Elks can know how much food to make. Tri-tip dinner is $15 per person.

The Elks Lodge is located at 42484 CA-41 in Oakhurst.

HOW says that “one woman with $10 can buy another woman lunch. Ten women giving $10 can buy another woman’s groceries. One hundred women giving $10 can make a real difference in another woman’s life.”
