Honorary Mayor Race Kicks Off With Business Open House

OAKHURST – It’s that time of year again. Time for the highlight of the intense political season in Oakhurst – the race for Honorary Mayor!

What does it take to become Honorary Mayor of Oakhurst? Choose your favorite nonprofit organization, and then raise more money for them than any of your competitors. Each dollar counts as a vote, and the the one with the most votes wins.Would-be mayors have until Friday, Apr. 12, to toss their hat into the ring by completing the application and delivering it to the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce at 40637 Highway 41, in Oakhurst.

Candidates have raised tens of thousands of dollars for local charities and organizations in the mountain area over the past years, and even those who don’t win are making a major contribution to their community. And besides, it’s fun!

The race will kick off this year with a big celebration at the Silver Creek Shopping Center in Oakhurst on Wednesday, Apr. 17.

“This year we are co-sponsoring a huge multi-business open house and the public is invited to come support their favorite 2013 Honorary Mayoral Candidates as they kick off their campaigns,” said Darin J. Soukup, Executive Director of the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce.

The multi-business open house will begin at 5 p.m. The candidates will be introduced at 6:00, and the evening will close at 7:00 with some prize drawings. The Silver Creek Shopping Center is located at 40879 Highway 41, Oakhurst.

There will be food available, a no-host bar, a cruise raffle and door prizes. Participating Chamber businesses for the open house are: 47th Place Carpet One, Supernaw’s Bar-B-Q, Synergy Massage by Bryce, Oakhurst Paints, Oakhurst Fruit & Nuts Co., and the Silver Creek Shopping Center.
