Holiday Spirit Abounds At Cowboy Christmas Concert

OAKHURST — Once again, the Oakhurst Lutheran Church has a special Cowboy Christmas Concert planned to get everyone in the holiday spirit on Sunday, Dec. 10. There will be two performances, one at 2:30 p.m., and a second at 6:30 p.m. The concerts feature Bobby Black, Tim Johnson, Candie Cobb, and Wendy LeBlanc.

Bobby Black is a world renowned master of the pedal steel and lap steel guitar who was inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 2004. Over the years he has performed with Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen, Asleep at the Wheel, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Barbara Mandrell, Dolly Parton, Joan Blackman (Elvis movies), Stolen Roses (songs of the Grateful Dead) and more.

Tim Johnson played with the Sons of the San Joaquin from 2000 – 2007. Tim is a Western Music Association instrumentalist of the year recipient for his solo fiddle album, American Fiddler.

Candie Cobb and her band, Eight Second Ride, have opened for and performed with superstars including Willie Nelson, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Merle Haggard, Johnny Rodriquez, Mel McDaniel, Travis Tritt, Riders in the Sky, and John Denver.

Wendy LeBlanc is a professional harpist and instructor with the Wyndfall Conservatory and performs with the Fresno Philharmonic and the Tulare County Sympony. Wendy studied harp with Ann Hobson-Pilot, renowned recording artist and principal harpist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops, as well as harp instructor for the New England Conservatory of Music and Boston University.

There will be a maximum seating of 140 for each performance with pre-sold tickets for the Cowboy Christmas at a suggested $20 donation.

For tickets and information call Oakhurst Lutheran at (559) 683-4673 or stop by the office during the week, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. It’s anticipated that the afternoon performance will sell out, and there may be some tickets at the door for the evening show.

Oakhurst Lutheran is on Road 426 across from PG&E, 1-1/2 miles from Highway 41 at 39255 Black Road.
