Hazardous Thunderstorms Impact Sierras

COUNTY – The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) reports that thunderstorms developing over the Sierra Nevada Crest from Tulare County northward into Madera County are the start of a weather pattern that’s expected to persist into the weekend.

Weather at higher elevations may include small hail, dangerous lightening, heavy rain and gusty winds.

According to the forecast from Hanford, these thunderstorms will impact much of the central and southern Sierra Crest as well as the Kern County mountain and the Grapevine. NWS says a hazardous weather outlook is in place for the higher elevations of the southern Sierra Nevada today and tonight. Locations include Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park and the Sierra National Forest.

“Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors,” advise the experts.

Stormy weather is expected on and off this week, possibly through Sunday, say current reports. The pattern is expected for thunderstorms developing in the afternoon and continuing into the evening this Tuesday through Thursday.
