Have A Doughnut With A Deputy

Madera County Sheriff Badge thumbnailCOARSEGOLD — Here’s an opportunity to get to know local law enforcement in a comfortable atmosphere with no agenda except a chat and cuppa something good. Madera County Sheriff Jay Varney invites the community to join him and the deputies to discuss community issues during monthly events dubbed “Doughnut with a Deputy.”

Based on the popular “Coffee with a Cop” format, the objective is to increase communication and break down any barriers between the public and the Madera Sheriff’s Office, say organizers. The focus of the events is to put citizens and deputies in a neutral environment and focus on solutions to issues while building working relationships.

Sheriff Varney has announced the first event will be Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 6:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. at Zanders Coffee, located at 35300 Highway 41 in Coarsegold at the Village.

“These events are a great opportunity to eliminate some of the communication obstacles and make ourselves available to the community to have open and honest conversations about what’s important to them,” says Sheriff Varney.

The Coffee with a Cop program is supported by the US Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, and its growth since 2011 continues at an exponential rate.  Coffee with a Cop was highlighted in the Final Report of the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing as a way to build community trust and confidence.
