Grub Fire Nears Total Containment

AHWAHNEE — Firefighters are making good progress on the Grub Fire, which is burning along Road 600 south of Ahwahnee.

As crews continue to strengthen firelines and do mop-up, Cal Fire is now reporting the fire at 85 acres and 75 percent contained.

Resources were dispatched just before 10 a.m. this morning to reports of a smoke on the east side of the road along Apache Ranch Road, but after a helicopter flew over the area, it was determined that it was likely smoke from the main fire, and the response was cancelled.

The Grub Fire was reported on Thursday, Aug 4, just after 2 p.m., and spread quickly across the steep hillsides of Grub Gulch, prompting the closure of a portion of Road 600, and evacuations.

The road was reopened and residents allowed to return home by 4:45 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

Anyone traveling Road 600 should be aware of the fire equipment moving along the narrow, winding road.
