Grand Opening Celebration At The Met

OAKHURST – Friday is the big grand opening at the Met Cinemas, and everyone is invited to come out to walk the red carpet and have their picture taken.

The theater reopened with much fanfare and excitement last Friday, and this is the celebration of everything that went into the reinvention and revitalization of an important part of the mountain community. The Met Too lobby will be the venue for the big party, with the festivities getting underway at 7:30 p.m. Guest are invited to spend some time mingling with friends, availing themselves of an opportunity to have their photos taken, and perhaps sharing their thoughts on-camera about what’s happening at the Met for posting on the website.

At about 9:30 p.m., there will be a showing in all five theaters of the latest movies – Oz The Great and Powerful, Lincoln, Identity Thief, Safe Haven and Jack Reacher.

If the seats for these showings are sold out, guest are invited to stay and enjoy themselves in the lounge, and relax in what is sure to be a party atmosphere.

New owner Matt Sconce says attendance at the Met in the past week has been better than anyone has ever seen before for this time of year.

“These numbers are just unheard of in a small town like this,” says Sconce. “Our booking agent thinks these numbers are better than anybody would ever expect for a theater of this size.”

That could go a long way toward enticing more big studios to participate in this new and exciting subscription business model.

Disney, Paramount, and Universal are on board, and with the success of the opening weekend, Relativity Media has joined the crowd.

“We are excited about the other studios coming on board,” says Sconce. “We think all the studios will see this as a profitable model, and that in a short time, we’ll have studios such as Warner Bros. making their movies available.”

Sconce says that folks are continuing to sign up, and encourages everyone to stop in and pick up their membership cards.

“If they come during a showing, there is usually no line,” he says. “They can just walk right up and get their cards, have their photo taken and their cards activated. It’s very important that people come by and get their cards.”

While you’re there, check out the Met Cinema Espresso Lounge, now open Thursday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to closing, and every Monday through Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to closing. Try some samples of shakes, Smoothies, Mochas, and Lattes, and discover why people are raving about their Tribal Lands coffee blend and the lounge itself. It’s a whole new experience at your hometown Met Cinemas!
