Good Progress On The Oak Fire Burning In O’Neals Area

O’NEALS — Firefighters are quickly getting a handle on a vegetation fire burning in the O’Neals area just south of Spring Valley School on Road 211.

Just after 5 p.m., firefighters responded to the fire initially reported at 4 to 5 acres, on the east side of Road 211.

Air tankers out of Colombia and a helicopter out of Trimmer were over the fire within 15 minutes, and quickly got water and retardant on the flames.

Sheriff’s deputies went house to house along Road 210 and also the dirt road leading to the heel of the fire, warning residents to be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

Some resources being released from the Spring Fire in Mariposa County were also dispatched, and other engines were moved up to cover stations left unstaffed.

By 6:40 p.m., air tankers were released, and Helicopter 520 was released back to Trimmer.

At 6:54 p.m., the forward progress of the fire was stopped at approximately 15 acres with an estimate of 10 percent containment.

Firefighters continue working on line construction and more resources are arriving.

By 8 p.m., fireghters had a solid line around the entire perimeter.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
