Give A Priceless Gift – Become A Hospice Volunteer

Written by Nicki Tempesta —

MOUNTAIN AREA — Hinds Hospice is currently recruiting Patient Volunteers in the Coarsegold/Oakhurst and surrounding areas.

The mission of Hinds Hospice is to uphold the dignity and ease the suffering of the terminally ill while supporting loved ones, and those who are grieving. At Hinds Hospice, we provide care in remote areas that are not otherwise served.

Over 200 patients are seen in their homes or in residential care facilities on any given day between Fresno, Madera, and Merced counties. Our hospice interdisciplinary care teams of nurses, home health aides, medical social workers, chaplains, medical directors and volunteers will visit a patient in their home to ensure they are as comfortable as possible.

Volunteers take the time to sit with patients so that caregivers can take a break. Our volunteers take time to share a cup of coffee, trade stories and wisdom, or simply share the silence.

Volunteers will have the satisfying knowledge that they are part of a team that is providing the best possible care for patients as well as their families in an environment that the patient finds safe, friendly, and loving –v their own home.

Volunteers must be 18 or older, attend two full days of training, pass a background and reference check, as well as complete a TB test and other vaccination requirements. You must also have a valid driver’s license and provide proof of auto insurance.

You could be a hospice patient’s last new friend. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact our Volunteer Department at volunteer@hindshospice.org or (559) 317-6016. You may also visit www.hindshospice.org for more information.
