Girl Scouts Host S'Mores Festival In Oakhurst

OAKHURST – Girl Scouts will be gathering in Oakhurst on Saturday, Aug. 10, to make a traditional treat in a non-traditional way – they will be roasting marshmallows in solar funnel cookers and making S’Mores in a solar pizza box oven.

This is just one of the many activities the girls will experience at Girl Scouts of Central California South’s upcoming S’Mores Festival at the Fresno Flats Historical Village and Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Girl Scouts will be able to make their own solar cookers, go on a tour of this historical landmark, hear about the history of S’Mores, and learn recipes for different varieties of S’Mores treats. S’Mores costumes will also be available for girls to have a photo shoot and get into the festival spirit.

Current Girl Scouts will pay $17 to attend and non-Girl Scouts are $37, which includes the annual Girl Scout membership. The fee for adults is $13.

Girl Scouts will earn their Madera County patch to add to their five-county council patch. Girls are encouraged to bring SWAPS (Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere) and trade with other Girl Scouts.

Fresno Flats Historical Village and Park is located at 49777 Road 427 in Oakhurst.
