Friends Of Jacob Share Memories, Gather Donations For Family

OAKHURST – A Facebook invitation from Kailyn Hammerling brought friends of Jacob Schumaker to the Oakhill Cemetary this afternoon to share memories of their lost friend.

Jacob lost his life on Saturday, Jan. 19, in a tragic accident while riding his skateboard near Yosemite Lakes Park. He was 17 years old.

As Kailyn waited by the Little Church on the Hill for others to arrive, she shared a bit about why she wanted this gathering to take place.“I know a lot of people liked Jacob, but some knew him really well,” she said. “I wanted to see some of those people. I just wanted some people to share the pain with.”

Kailyn described Jacob as carefree; someone who didn’t let a lot get to him. “He was a cool guy. A lot of people loved him. I think that’s the nice part about a small community; eveyone’s connected. When one person is hurt, everyone else hurts.”

We will also be putting jars at all the schools in the mountain area and in Oakhurst and Coarsegold. A jar will be at Goldmine Pizza tomorrow as well as Vintage Chic and Coarsegold Market.”
