Fraud Alert – The FBI Doesn't Email Citizens

Sheriff issues fraud alert about emails claiming to be from FBI.

MADERA COUNTY – Anyone who receives an email claiming to be from the Federal Bureau of Investigation should delete it immediately, according to Sheriff John Anderson. An email circulating in other states is now reaching the computers of Madera County residents. Anderson said in a press release that he wants to assure the public that the FBI never sends emails to citizens. The FBI also does not help anyone, much less Nigerian agents, banks or private citizens, deliver money to U.S. citizens.

These scams, which claim to come from the FBI, usually offer to deliver millions of dollars if you will send them a few hundred or a few thousand dollars. Don’t do it.

Anderson said email scams have been forwarded to him by local residents, and he wants everyone to know they are bogus. The best way to deal with them is to hit your “delete” button.
