Flash Flood Warning For Central Sierra

CENTRAL SIERRA — The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a Flash Flood Warning for central Mariposa County, central Madera County, east-central Merced County, southern Tuolumne County, northwestern Tulare County, central Fresno County, effective until 2:45 p.m. today.

Local law enforcement officials have reported flooding due to heavy rain across the area. Estimated rainfall rates are one-quarter to one-half inch per hour. Flash flooding is expected with mud and rock slides possible, Pg&E is reported heavy stream flows below Bass Lake in the North Fork area.

Areas expected to experience flooding are Oakhurst, Mariposa, Bootjack, North Fork, Yosemite Lakes, Fish Camp, Catheys Valley, Bonnadelle and Madera Ranchos, Clovis, Yosemite South Entrance, Trimmer Springs, Orange Cove, Orosi, Batterson, El Portal, Crane Valley Reservoir, Mitchell Meadow, Millerton Lake and Chilkoot Meadow.

Excessive rainfall over the warned area will cause mud slides near steep terrain, and the danger of trees falling across roads and into homes and power lines is very high.
