First Winter Ascent Of Mt. Whitney Featured At Scenic Byway Meeting

NORTH FORK — The public is invited to attend a presentation by well-known wildlife biologist Phil Bartholomew on Wednesday, Apr. 19, at the North Fork School.

The presentation will be part of the annual Sierra Vista Scenic Byway meeting.

In 1928, Orland Bartholomew made a 300-mile trek in mid-winter from Yosemite to Mount Whitney, which included the first winter ascent of Mount Whitney.

Well-known wildlife biologist Phil Bartholomew will make a multimedia presentation of this incredible mountaineering feat, sharing his father’s High Odyssey.

A short annual Sierra Vista Scenic Byway business meeting will precede the presentation. Admission is free and there will be free refreshments.

The meeting and presentation will take place at the North Fork School Music Room on Apr. 19 at 7 p.m.
