AHWAHNEE — Firefighters made quick work of a fire reported near the address 36976 Road 600 in the Ahwahnee area.
Just after noon today, a full wildland dispatch was call out to an “unknown type fire” in the area. A column of smoke was also seen by a lookout nearby.
Resources from Cal Fire, Madera County Fire and the Sierra National Forest were dispatched, along with Air Attack, two helicopters and air tankers.
The first unit at scene reported the fire at 1/4 to 1/2 acre with a moderate rate of spread.
Firefighters made access off Road 612.
At 12:32 p.m., the incident commander reported the fire contained, and estimated a couple hours for mop-up and control, with heavy fuels in the fire area. All resources not needed for control were cancelled.
Air Attack was asked to do a fly-over of the area to check for any possible spot fires. All other air resources were released by 12:36 p.m.
At 12:39 p.m., Air Attack reported no additional fires in the area, and was released back to Fresno.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
