MARIPOSA — A vegetation fire that started with a vehicle on fire in the parking lot of the Mariposa Human Services Department was stopped before damaging any structures.
The fire was reported at 1:05 p.m. as a vehicle fire on Lemee Lane, and quickly spread to an estimated 10 acres, burning close behind the Cal Fire Emergency Command Center.
Gusting winds reportedly accelerated the spread of the fire, igniting hot spots as it moved.
As fire engines headed to the scene, air tankers and two helicopter were dispatched, and the forward progress was stopped by 1:36 p.m.
By 1:39 p.m., the Incident Commander reported that firefighters had a hose lay and dozer line around the entire perimeter, and air resources were released.
At 1:46 p.m., all resources not already at scene were cancelled.
The IC estimates three to four hours for complete control.
